We are seeking a driven, dynamic Finance Operations Manager to help scale a growing defence AI technology business in central Oxford!
We develop and deliver mission-critical autonomous systems and hardware manufacturing operations, so reliability, commercial judgement, structured problem-solving and adaptability really matter. This role spans finance operations, accounting, bookkeeping, project finance, systems, and operational improvement in a fast-paced, high-assurance environment.
We are looking for 3-4 days per week initially, with potential to increase to full-time as the business grows.
In this role you will work closely with the leadership team, external finance providers, project managers and operational teams, with the opportunity to grow into a future Finance Lead or CFO role and build a finance function, as the company scales. You will be expected to become embedded in the business and bring ownership, structure, clear communication, and practical judgement rather than simply processing transactions. This is particularly suited to someone who thrives in a high-autonomy, dynamic environment and is comfortable adapting and growing with the business.
How you’ll make an impact
Financial Control (Primary): Own day-to-day finance operations, including bookkeeping oversight, month-end close, management accounts, reconciliations and financial reporting. Lead VAT, annual accounts, R&D tax credit, grant finance, financial controls, PO/AP processes, supplier onboarding, cashflow forecasting, budgeting, capital management and liquidity reporting.
Commercial & Project Finance (Secondary): Maintain project profitability reporting, revenue recognition schedules and contract performance monitoring. Support project costing, pricing, financial modelling, contract and grant compliance, government-funded project reporting, supplier management and procurement activities.
Other: Build a scalable finance function by improving systems, personnel resourcing, integrations, workflows and processes. Provide strategic support through due diligence, financial analysis and business case development.
